End of Winter cleanup

Postby gileas » Thu Sep 02, 2010 11:51 am

Mick, I have a few sightings from winter to add to the list before we start on spring!

Freckled Duck - I saw the Freckled Duck reported on this forum from Beaudesert on 20th July.

Northern Mallard - I had a male Mallard at Helidon Spa a few weeks back - it had all the right features including wild-type plumage, orange legs, yellow bill and curly tail. It was by itself, didn't stay in the area, and was convincing enough for me to tick it for the year.

Australian Hobby - a pair at Lake Clarendon on the 30th August

Red-necked Avocet - a single bird at Helidon Spa on the 30th August

Banded Lapwing - 11 birds including a chick at the Turf Farm near Atkinson Dam 31st August

Brush Bronzewing  - finally got onto this one at Cooloola NP on 22nd July

Glossy Black-Cockatoo - two birds near Postman's Track at Lake Samsonvale 22nd July

Long-billed Corella - several LBCs near Lake Clarendon on the 30th Aug

Noisy Pitta - surprisingly heard calling at Maiala at Mt Glorious on 22nd July

Pale-yellow Robin - common at Mt Tambourine on 30th July

Yellow-throated Scrubwren - common at Binna Burra on 30th July

Chestnut-rumped Heathwren - two on Junction Track on the 28th Aug

Black-chinned Honeyeater - common at Sheepstation Creek EP near Caboolture on 5th Aug

Paradise Riflebird - heard at Binna Burra on 30th July (frustratingly still haven't seen for my year list!)

Green Catbird - common at Binna Burra on 30th July
