250 challenge - Little Eagle

In 2006, we set up the inaugral Challenge to see if we could collectively record 250 species during the year in the club's survey area. How did we go? Extremely well considering the drought... Plenty of unusual and rare birds .... some great records from non-members too. It was a fascinating year. And a worthwhile exercise which we encourage other groups to follow. See for yourself...

Echo Valley South Park

This would also be the first report of a Little Eagle for the Echo Valley region and a new bird for Echo Valley South Park (EVSP) list. This bushland park owned by Toowoomba City Council is located immediately south of the Echo Valley motorbike track, Ramsay St South, and is well worth a visit. A good spot for honeyeaters, including Brown-headed Honeyeater - one we need for the Challenge - when the eucalypts are flowering, and Striated Thornbills particularly in the roadside vegetation. There is a lovely moist gully (thanks to the privet!) which is home to a few of the species normally only seen in vine scrubs around here including Large-billed Scrubwren, Regent Bowerbird and Brown Gerygone.

Please submit all EVSP sightings to me or post them on the forum as I am coordinating the collation of this information for the council to ensure the birdlife is well-documented and clearing of weeds is performed judiciously, particulary any clearing of privet along the gully.
